Books for Gifts

With the various holidays coming up, I wanted to present some gift ideas for those special people in your life. I'm gonna stick to books since I am a real bookworm and like nothing better than to spend hours browsing in bookstores. As a result, I have many bookshelves filled with books, and guess what? It seems like most of them are about sex! Therefore I think I'm qualified to offer you these recommendations. If you do get one for yourself or a friend/lover/family member, please let me know what they think! I realize the holidays season is almost over, but if you're late with buying gifts (like me), this is for you.

Full Exposure: Opening Yourself Up To Erotic Expression
by Susie Bright

My first recommendation is my favorite book of the year. This book made me cry when I started reading it because everything Susie says is just so TRUE and real and things that I've tried to think about and say before but not as articulately as she does.

It's probably her most accessible book and, in my opinion, her best. Basically, she talks about how sexuality impacts other areas of our lives besides just how we have sex and how we can live in ways that support our sexuality and affirm us as people. That may sound a little hokey in my words, but this book has so much to say that if you pick it up you'll understand why it meant so much to me.

The Erotic Lives of Women
by Linda Troeller and Marion Schneider.

This is an excellent photo book, from its electrifying cover photo of a woman draped in lights, to its insights into what real women see as being erotic. Linda Troeller captured these women in their elements in some gorgeous photography while Marion Schneider asked probing questions which gave the women the chance to explore their own innermost fantasies.

The women featured in this book come from all over the world and range in age and occupation, and all have a different, fascinating take on their own personal journey through eroticism. This is a lush, captivating book that anyone would delight in receiving as a gift.

Lip Service
by M.J. Rose

A spicy tale of sex and obsession - if you liked Nicholson Baker's Vox, you'll like this one. Perfect to curl up with on a dark, cold night!

The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex
by Anne Semans and Cathy Winks

This collection truly has "everything you ever wanted to know about sex but were afraid to ask."

From sex toys to birth control and beyond, the authors present their information in an accessible, friendly style and cover everything in a woman-friendly, queer-friendly tone.

Sex for One
by Betty Dodson

This is a classic book by masturbation's foremost advocate, Betty Dodson. Written in an easy, gentle style, this book takes us through Betty's personal journey and her views about why masturbation is such a necessity.

By the end you'll be wanting to spend more time masturbating and hope that everyone around you does too!

Electric - Best New Lesbian Erotica

These stories are exciting, sexy, and innovative, and will stay with you long after you read them. They feature sex in interesting locals with exotic

Exhibitionism for the Shy
by Carol Queen.

If you ever get tired of wearing the same clothes or feel like your life is lackluster, read this book. Carol Queen offers something for everyone as she shows how to be bolder in bed and carry yourself with confidence and sexiness. Perfect gift for a friend, lover, or even yourself!

Any of the Herotica series (volumes 1 through 6)

This series has done a world of good in showing that women read and enjoy erotica, not just romance novels.

These stories are so great that I go back and reread my favorites - they sexy and hot and clever and well-written - what more could you ask for?

Boy Meets Boy
edited by Lawrence Schimel.

This is a really charming collection of stories about boys meeting boys - sometimes successfully, sometimes unsuccessfully.

In fact, the most charming stories are not the ones where two boys meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after, but the ones where things go awry - check it out for yourselves, especially editor Schimel's own tale of sex with one of his fan's.

The Oy of Sex
edited by Marcy Sheiner

Well, Hanukkah is over, but if you forgot to get someone a Hanukkah gift, this collection can't be beat. It's filled with cute and naughty stories, some that are explicitly religious and some that deal with Judaism only peripherally. They'll make you laugh and turn you on.
